Security Tips

DO NOT leave your mobile phone or other valuables on show in your car unless you want to make acquaintance with criminals. By tempting and then giving them the opportunity to rob you, you have no one but yourself to blame. Be Smart and Discreet at all times.

BURGLARS carefully pick the premises that they raid before making a hit. In most cases, they will use inside information gleaned from your house workers, relatives, neighbors and even colleagues. They prefer premises with the easiest access, the greatest cover and best escape routes. The best and cheapest way of keeping burglars at bay is through maintaining good neighborliness and lighting up your home.

  • Take precautions to protect yourself  against date rapes
  • Only drink from un-opened containers or drinks you’ve poured yourself.
  • NEVER leave your drinks un-attended.
  • Say “NO” to any unwanted sexual contact.
  • ELIMINATE or LIMIT your alcohol intake as it interferes with your ability to identify risky situations and also clouds your judgment.
  • Attend social activities with friends, look out for one another and always leave as a group.
  • Have your keys at hand not only to prevent you from spending long hours at your door-step, but since they can also be very handy self-defense weapons.

  • Avoid walking/jogging in lonely, isolated or unfamiliar areas-or alone late in the evening or early in the morning.
  •   Keep a safe distance from anyone you think looks suspicious, giving yourself time and space to react.
  • Avoid dark side-walks and making love in deserted alleys and car-parks. You totally compromise your security by doing so.
  • Whenever possible, walk with a companion or group.
  • Walk assertively and do not have your arms full with bags and packages when walking alone at night. Keep a hand free…………just in case you need to defend yourself.
  • Beware when your attacker gets agitated. Try and talk to him as a person, but DO NOT fight against a weapon since violence only begets more violence.
  •  If you assess your situation and feel that you have gained an advantage over your attacker, you may use clinical physical resistance by striking his groin, poking his eyes or hitting the Adams apple as hard as you can.

  • Do not try to find your way after its dark.
  • ] Always travel with your doors locked and windows drawn high.
  •   Be alert and aware of your surroundings at all times.

 Vary your times and routes to, and from routine destinations and learn to change habitual behaviours. Do not be too predictable!
 Make sure that someone knows where you are going and when to expect you. Ensure that they know who to call if you don’t arrive as planned.
 Beware and note vehicles and people in front of, and behind you or your vehicle and avoid getting ”boxed in” especially at night and at the gates of your residence.
 Don’t move too close to a slow moving vehicle ahead of you and be alert of fake roadblocks and “broken down” vehicles on deserted roads as these are often traps. However use your wise judgment to determine genuine cases deserving of your help.
 Do not flaunt expensive bling as they are a magnet to thugs.
 Be alert and take special care in traffic jams during rainy seasons and at intersections.
 It’s not a bad idea to permanently keep a cheap but functioning cell-phone in your car boot. Who knows, it may come in handy should you find the car boot your temporary home during a carjack.
